Hip, stark and stylish, Blakes Amsterdam, is Anouska Hempel's famous sister-hotel to Blakes London. It beckons you inside, where everything is a shade darker. The restaurant is one of Amsterdam's finest, a subtle Asian fusion served in the classiest of environments.

Mangerie de Kersentuin
Mangerie de Kersentuin At the Bilderberg Garden Hotel
Our dinner at Mangerie de Kersentuin began with Veuve Cliquot and amuse-bouches of smoky roasted octopus with tomato vinaigrette and aoili. The feast that followed included such highlights as thinly sliced turbo with chanterelles and croque-madames with foie gras, truffle and truffle vinaigrette. The brochette of duck--glazed with honey, served with minted peas and confit of garlic--was creatively presented on a skewer hanging off a specially-designed side plate. We had Louis Jadot 1997 Pinot to accompany the duck -- its strong flavors of smoke and licorice proved a perfect complement to the caramelized garlic.

Le Pêcheur Lobster prepared as you wish
For the discerning seafood aficionado, Le Pêcheur is a destination worthy of note. After indulging in oysters and tuna carpaccio with duck liver mousse for starters, we moved on to sauteed scallops served in a wine sauce, with minced necatrine adding good effect. The Lobster, which we requested broiled, came beautifully tender. The Laroche Chablis was well-balanced and fruity, with hints of vanilla and apple: a sound accompaniement to a fine seafood meal.
